THE PURPOSE OF THIS CHAPTER  SHALL BE TO FOSTER AN INTEREST  AMONG HORSEMEN IN DRESSAGE

Dressage, ( training or schooling), as an equitation term, means the gradual harmonious development of the horse's physical and mental condition with the aim being to achieve the improvement of its natural gaits and a perfect understanding with its rider.

The program of the Lake County Chapter shall be educational and shall be designed  primarly to offer a framework in which individuals can progress with the schooling of themselves and their horses. Activities shall be directed toward a better general understanding of Dressage.

The Lake County Chapter of the California Dressage Society is a non-profit organization of horse enthusiasts who are particulary interested in promoting the sport of Dressage.
Members interests  range from Dressage, Dressage Driving, Trail riding, Training, Breeding, Eventing, Handicapped riding, Scholarships, and Western style programs.

DRESSAGE  OFFERS  A  LOGICAL  APPROACH  TO SCHOOLING  HORSES.

The  ideal qualities which riders strive to develop in their horses are obedience, self-carriage, suppleness, impulsion, and collection, in order to achieve a feeling of unison with their equine partner. These challenging ends must be achieved without short cuts, severe equipment or artificial appliances.

The horse is taught to be sensitive to pressures through seat, legs, and hands of the rider. These aides comprise a language of subtlety and finesse.

Dressage is a state of mind. While physical self-discipline is required, the rider's positive mental attitude and acquired knowledge and skill guide his physical development. Much like learning to play a musical instrument and much like striving for harmony with that instrument in an orchestra, dressage requires patience and skill, coupled with balance and rhythm.

Dressage while systematic in theory, offers a certain degree of margin when applied practically to the individual horse. The rider must understand the horse's associative learning process before he can develop the unique relationship with his horse. This is where the daily challenge comes in, The Art, where the rider welcomes every minute success as a masterpiece.
